The winery is once again a hive of activity with the 2016 vintage having kicked off on 27 January. Barossa whites were the first crush of the season.

Chief Winemaker Ian “Honky” Hongell and our new viticulturist Tony Marshall have been working with our amazing family of growers from all over the Barossa region to locate the perfect parcels of fruit that create just the right flavours to make Peter Lehmann wines so special.

The warm and dry lead up to the start of vintage was followed by some very welcome rain showers around the end of January. This refreshing end to the month didn’t dampen the team’s spirits but put a spring in their step knowing the fruit coming in would have a new freshness to it and has had time for the flavours to develop just that little bIt more.

The whites are looking great in tank so far and the Barossa Shiraz is well on its way to something rather special. Already in ferment, the wine is looking dark and rich in colour with great flavour development.

Every day is a little more exciting than the last around the site, with a constant stream of new varietals being delivered for our winemakers to work their magic with.
