Our Wines

Our wine selection brings out the best of the enormous diversity of the Barossa and its 14 individual sub-regions.

The 140-plus growers represent every region, from the valley floor to the elevated sites of Eden Valley and beyond.

The winemakers spend countless hours in the vineyards before vintage with the growers, monitoring fruit and managing crops with particular wine styles in mind. Every Peter Lehmann wine is truly a wine made in the vineyard.

The winery is designed to accommodate individual batches for blending, creating wines of great dimension that are the best they can be across all tiers.

Set Descending Direction

"In the beginning we made just one Shiraz, the grape variety that has defined the Barossa as one of the world's great wine regions. But we knew Shiraz that came from some vineyards was better than others - smaller, deeper in colour and more intensely flavoured - 'Little Black Jewels' we called them. For over 20 years, Stonewell has been lauded as one of Australia's greatest wines and one of the world's greatest Shiraz."

Andrew Wigan, Chief Winemaker 1979 - 2014

VSV

Over the past decade, some special pockets of land have consistently stood out to the winemakers for their quality and individual character. Fruit from these vineyards was set aside, and made in small batches to highlight this character as single vineyard wines under the name “VSV” – Very Special Vineyards. The commitment of each grower is recognised with their signature.

The first Peter Lehmann wine sold was a powerful Shiraz called Futures. It was marketed on a “pay now and pick up after two years in the cellar” arrangement. Futures played two important roles in the Peter Lehmann story: it cemented a reputation for classic Shiraz, and provided much need cash flow from supporters of the fledgling business. As such, it secured the Future of Peter Lehmann Wines.

Peter Lehmann’s sparkling wines explore another dimension to the fruit from Barossa’s valley floor and the cool heights of Eden Valley. What began as an experimental application of méthode traditionnelle with old vine Barossa Shiraz in the early 1980s has expanded to become a family of limited release individual wines that are truly worth celebrating.

The Classic Range is a testament to the gamble that Peter Lehmann took when he established the winery in the uncertain times of the late 1970s - with each wine featuring a rendition of the Queen of Clubs commonly referred to as the gambler’s card. The Classic Range represents the risks taken in life, with a selection of wines to suit every triumph, no matter how big or small.
The great Australian poet Banjo Patterson immortalised Clancy of the Overflow in his ode to all that is good and true living on the land. Peter Lehmann honoured Clancy’s legend in the early 90s with a classic Australian blend that is as true to the land as Clancy. Like the loyal drover, they always deliver and in turn have become legendary in their own right.

Every Peter Lehmann wine begins its life at the weighbridge, where growers deliver the fruits of their year’s hard work to winemakers committed to making the best wines from it. These wines named for that legacy: easy drinking from growers with heart.
Peter Lehmann took the gamble of his life to establish the winery in 1979 – a Wildcard that paid off. These wines of consistent quality are sourced from the breadth of South Australia with varietal flavour – and unbeatable value – in mind.
The Barossa region was originally founded on fortified wines, and Peter Lehman upholds this tradition with a small range of classic styles, available exclusively through Cellar Door and the website.

In the 1840's a handful of Silesian settlers from Europe arrived in the Barossa and planted vineyards. Today, sustained by six generations of sons and daughters these ancient, dry grown vines are now some of the rarest in the world.
The Founding Stone was laid in 1979 to seal the bond between growers and Peter Lehmann Wines. It is located at the weighbridge, where grapes are delivered daily during vintage. Our winemakers treat every wine as a blank canvas and their “palette” consists of fruit from more than 140 growers. These wines are made to capture the colour and fun of life, in the same way that Peter Lehmann lived his dream.
