In the 1960’s, Peter Lehmann was a pioneer in blending Shiraz with the white wine variety Muscadelle. He was seeking to develop a red wine style that was richly flavoured, but with a soft, intriguingly spicy lift. The tradition of blending continued at Peter Lehmann Wines from the 1980’s and while Muscadelle is a relatively small component (less than 10%), its vibrant impact is significant, and worthy of recognition. This tradition of blending red and white wine continues with the Peter Lehmann winemaking team today.
The charm in this wine comes from co-fermenting a small amount of the white grape Muscadelle with the robust Shiraz. The result is a deeply coloured red wine showing spicy, brambly fruit and lifted aromatics. The palate shows vibrancy and finishes with a lovely soft spice flavour.
