Sustainability at Peter Lehmann
At Peter Lehmann Wines, sustainability means producing wines that people love, in ways that support our environment and local communities.
Peter Lehmann Wines partners with 79 growers across 16 Barossa regions, producing wines sustainably to protect the environment and local communities for future generations.
SUSTAINABLE WINEGROWING AUSTRALIA
Our winery, vineyards, and grower network are proudly Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certified. This certification reflects our commitment to reducing environmental impact, preserving land, and supporting local communities.
REGIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Through the Wildlife 4 Wine program, we’ve planted 2,500+ native trees and shrubs and installed microbat huts to support local biodiversity. We also collaborate with Landscape SA to monitor and conserve native species.
SOIL CONSERVATION
We continuously improve our land management practices, working with growers to enhance biodiversity through inter-row plantings, native grasses, and minimal chemical use. Our grower families implement a minimal intervention ‘hands-off’ approach to the vineyard to allow the fruit to truly express itself, no insecticides have been used for over 20 years, and herbicide spraying is limited.
WATER STEWARDSHIP
All water on-site is fully recycled before being returned to the environment or used for irrigation, and there is no wastewater, making us South Australia’s first private company on the Drinking Water Providers registry. We optimise vineyard water use by planting native tree species, fencing off waterways with plantings and applying mulch under-vine to reduce evaporation. All our vineyards have soil moisture monitoring systems to ensure that we optimise water use and have responsible use of water sources.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
We are committed to minimising waste and maximising recycling from vineyard through to consumer, participating in the APCO 2025 packaging targets to reduce environmental impact.
CORPORATE GIVING
Our parent company, Casella Family Brands, provides grants to local Barossa Valleyorganisations, including Northern and Yorke Landscape Board, Barossa Wildlife Rescue and Biodiversity McLaren Vale, to help fund biodiversity projects such as, wildlife rescue efforts, and creek regeneration to restore native habitats.
