Peter Lehmann shines at the Barossa Wine Show - Peter Lehmann Wines

Peter Lehmann shines at the Barossa Wine Show

The Barossa Valley Wine Show, established in 1977, is a premier event that highlights the finest wines from the region each year. To be eligible, wines must be produced in the Barossa Valley and contain at least 85% Barossan grapes. The judging panel comprised esteemed winemakers, media experts, and professional wine judges who evaluated the wines blindly, ensuring that each entry was assessed solely on its quality.

Scoring of wines is based on the 100-point system where points are awarded based on the appearance of the wine, the nose and of course the palate.

This year Peter Lehmann has been highly recognised across the show with BIG WINS for our Wigan Riesling, THE Barossan Grenache and our newest star The Eternal Optimist.

Wigan Riesling wins White Wine of Provenance

This class represents outstanding consistency, an ability to age with grace whilst still displaying place and vintage across a ten-year period. Our 2007, 2011 and 2017 Wigan Riesling vintages were tasted and judged against some our esteemed neighbours and we came out on top and were awarded the trophy for 2024 White Wine of Provenance. This award showcases the skill and expertise our growers and winemaking team to produce wines with superb aging potential.

2022 THE Barossan Grenache - TROPHY

Passion and pristine fruit have combined to create a truly special expression of Grenache, and the Barossa Wine Show judges thought so too. Peter Lehmann was awarded the Vinpac International & Prowine Trophy for the Best Grenache in show. This is a wonderful win for Peter Lehmann with the 2022 THE Barossan Grenache beating out the gold medal winners of Class 17 and acknowledged as the best of the best.

2023 Eternal Optimist - TROPHY

A very exciting win for our new shining star. The Eternal Optimist won the Rod Schubert Trophy for the best 2023 Shiraz. From all the gold medal winning wines in Class 10 the 2023 The Eternal Optimist was crowned simply the best in this class. We couldn't be prouder of this nod - watch out for this sublime wine at our Cellar Door and online store soon.

Then last, but certainly not least, our Chief Winemaker, Nigel Westblade, took the honours when Peter Lehmann was awarded the CCL Label Trophy for the Best Large Sized Winery for 2024. To be eligible for this category Peter Lehmann needed to have the highest average score across all exhibitors and all wines entered to and have had 4 or more judged entries where at least one gold medal had been won. To be classed as a large producer 801+ tonnes of grapes must have been crushed for the 2024 vintage (that's a lot of very premium wine on its way!!).

It's been a big week for Peter Lehmann Wine - with more to come!
